Our History

Hopco is a Tasmanian independent, family owned and operated business founded by John and Sandy Ross in 2001, Hopco’s aim is to provide quality hops, hop products and production equipment to breweries and home brew stores across Australia.

Since 2001 the growth of Hopco has seen the company form long term relationships with some of the world’s most reputable hop suppliers like New Zealand Hops and Yakima Chief Hopunion LLC in the US, both respectively work for the hop farmers.

The growth of the craft brewing industry in Australia has seen Hopco diversify and since 2005 operate as the agents for Handtmann, offering beer stabilisation and filtration equipment. More recently in 2014, Totally Natural Solutions have also come on board to supply a number of extracts, oils and downstream products.

Our Staff

Sandy Ross

With a childhood spent in and around hop farms, hops were a part of life for Sandy from an early age.  With many a harvests under the belt and other career paths sampled it wasn’t til 1999 when Sandy became a Hoperator and joined the Hopunion Australia movement with a succession plan in mind to follow in his father’s footsteps. However like father like son, Sandy was crucial to initial start-up of Hopco and in 2004 taking over as managing director and helping Hopco become the company that it is today. With 10 years at the helm Sandy is the driving force and instrumental in the diversity that Hopco offers today. You maybe won’t see Sandy on the golf course as much as John but he does know a hell of a lot about hops and Valiant Chargers, just ask him.

Jon Burridge

Hold on he’s not family?? With the growth of the Australian craft brewing industry, Hopco has seen demand increase and the requirement for someone in a sales and marketing position. Previously at Moo Brew for over six years, Jon has come on board to fill this demand and help Sandy to take Hopco into the future. You will see him on the golf course or any sports field for that matter but his hollow chicken legs and knowledge of the Australian brewing industry see him a perfect fit for Hopco.  Twitter: @hopheavyweight
